How to write an Engineering cover letter

An engineering cover letter highlights key points regarding the engineering education and work experience of a candidate and makes him eligible for an engineering post in a company. An engineering cover letter should rightly complement the resume of the candidate should show the passion and enthusiasm of the candidate for an engineering related post. The engineering cover letter is often the first thing that creates a positive or negative impression about the candidate. Below are some points that can let you design an effective engineering cover letter.

Points to be kept in mind while writing an Engineering cover letter:

  • Start writing your engineering cover letter like a standard business letter format. Write the “From” and “To” address and direct the mail to the appropriate recruitment authorities.
  • Use proper prefixes and suffixes while addressing the authorities. Use Mr, Mrs, or Ms before the recipient’s name.
  • Start the engineering cover letter by writing how you came to know about the vacancy in a particular role and which roles among the mentioned ones are you applying for.
  • Then start another paragraph where you include your educational background. Summarise your educational background in not more than two or three simple sentences.
  • The rest of the body of the engineering cover letter should mention your key attributes and work experience gained that can make you suitable for the applied position.
  • At the end of the body of the engineering cover letter you can add a line saying that you would be expecting a reply from the recruiter and you look forward to pursuing career opportunities with that firm.
  • Write your name at the end of the engineering cover letter.
  • Throughout the letter you should not include any irrelevant point and should keep in mind to include all the relevant education, part time or full time work experience, etc that makes you a good candidate for the role.
