How to write an Email cover letter

Most of the companies these days ask for an email cover letter. An email cover letter is slightly different from a paper based cover letter. It is important to take care of some important points while designing the email cover letter because their can lead to make or break of the chances for a candidate. The following points highlight the key features of an email cover letter and the differences that exist between a paper based cover letter and an email cover letter.

Points to be kept in mind while writing an Email cover letter:

Generally a good email cover letter tries to focus on the company’s need and the applicability of the candidate to the post. It discusses why the experience of a particular candidate is ideally suited for the role at hand.
The email cover letter should not be too long. Recruiters have to go through innumerable cover letters and hence a short email cover letter will let the recruiter go through it fully and take a decision.
You should attach your curriculum vitae along with the email cover letter so that recruiters can get an idea about the eligibility or non-eligibility of the candidate for the post.
The email address of the candidate should also be professional. It is better to avoid childish names as email addresses. It throws a bad impression about the candidate on the mind of the recruiter.
The email address should preferably address the HR manager or recruitment manager. You can mail the email to the known HR or to the email address mentioned in the careers or job section in the company website.
As in a normal cover letter, in an email cover letter you must highlight your expertise and skills that can help you convert the job opportunity into a job selection.
