A financial cover letter is written by anyone who is addressing a company working in the field of finances; an applicant may apply for a job in the finance company or an intern may seek an internship in the world of finance and so on. These cover letters may also be addressed to financial planners or advisors who help other companies or people make sound financial decisions. Depending on the specific type of receiver certain nuances of the cover letter may change but these basic points must be maintained:
Sender’s details: At the very top of the cover letter, one needs to type the name, address, phone number, email address and any other important piece of contact information.
Date: This has to be followed by the date of sending this letter.
Receiver details: Write down clearly and without any grammatical or spelling errors the name of the receiver, his designation, the name of the company and address.
Professional greetings: Address the receiver formally by saying “Dear Mr ____” or “Respected Sir/Ma’am” if you don’t know the name.
Division of paragraphs: A financial cover letter must not be too long and needs to be planned and organised well. In the first paragraph, mention clearly what post you are applying for and why. In the second para, include relevant skills like expertise with numbers, organisational ability, eye for details etc and also mention any past work experience in the field of finance which will get the attention of the receiver. The last para can include your educational qualifications which would have connection with the post, like a degree in commerce, accounting etc or any other information about extracurricular activities.
Signing off: Sign off the letter by thanking the receiver and showing your optimism regarding a possible interview, including dates of when you are available.
